A stroopwafel ( Dutch for “syrup waffle”) is a Dutch specialty. It consists of two round, stacked pastry wafers with a diameter of about 10 centimeters, between which there is a caramel filling .

The Stroopwafel was invented in Gouda in the 19th century and is traditionally consumed with coffee , tea or cocoa . Often, it is placed on the cup before consumption to warm it up and thus liquefy the syrup. Nowadays the microwave oven is also often used for this.

While stroopwafels can usually only be obtained industrially and packaged outside the Netherlands, they are often freshly prepared in their country of origin in the markets of street vendors. The break is also packaged in bags sold as "Snippers".
