Studebaker XUV (also Avanti XUV ) was the name of the prototype of a sport utility vehicle presented by Avanti Motor Corporation in 2003 and 2004 . The acronym XUV should stand for Xtreme Utility Vehicle . A pick-up version was presented as the Studebaker XUT .
history
The model was first presented at the 2003 Chicago Auto Show. It was branded Studebaker , but was also referred to as Avanti in the media . Because of its striking resemblance to the Hummer H2 , General Motors filed a lawsuit, which was settled out of court after some visual changes to the model. At the Chicago Auto Show 2004 the model was presented again with some optical changes (and a changed length of 5474 mm).
The base price was estimated at $ 75,000 and annual production at the Villa Roca, Georgia plant was to be 1,000 units.
However, there was no series production.
technology
The XUV was based on the 2003/04 Ford Super Duty . A V10 engine with a displacement of 6.8 liters and 310 hp from Ford or a V8 diesel engine with a displacement of 6.0 l and 325 hp from the same manufacturer were targeted as the engine. A turbocharged version of the V10 engine with 425 hp was also discussed. A 5-speed automatic transmission was provided for power transmission.
With a wheelbase of 340.4 cm, the XUV (at the first presentation) was 548.6 cm long, 203.2 cm wide and 203.2 cm high. The curb weight was around 2700 kg and the ground clearance was 30.5 cm. The special features of the prototypes included electrically operated sliding doors at the rear and a removable rear roof as on the Studebaker Wagonaire .
