The Studierendenwerk Bremen is a student union . As a cross-university social institution, the Studierendenwerk Bremen is responsible for the economic, social, health and cultural support and promotion of students at the universities in the state of Bremen. The Studierendenwerk Bremen looks after over 30,000 students in Bremen and Bremerhaven at the Bremen universities.

history

The Studierendenwerk Bremen was founded on June 28, 1972 as a "social work for the members of the universities of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen" as an institution under public law. The forerunner was the "Sozialwerk der Universität Bremen eV" founded on June 13, 1971 and dissolved on July 1, 1972. On February 11, 1987, the name was changed to "Studentenwerk Bremen". With the promulgation of the law on the Studierendenwerk Bremen (StWG) on May 12, 2018, the name was changed to the Studierendenwerk Bremen.

The Studierendenwerk Bremen operates the canteens at the universities and colleges. With the student dormitories, the plant offers student accommodation and is the point of contact for training grants. The psychological-therapeutic service is available to the students with advice. The Studierendenwerk Bremen also promotes student cultural work. Another branch is childcare at universities through grants for groups of children and the provision of childcare rooms.

The student house is located on the campus of the University of Bremen in the central area. There is the administrative headquarters of the Studierendenwerk Bremen with the management, administration, housing management, accommodation service and cultural support.
