Student engineering office

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Student engineering offices are engineering offices that are mainly run by students at universities or in a university environment. Similar to student management consultancies , the organizations are in most cases only managed and supervised by students. In addition to their studies, in the case of student engineering offices, they carry out practice-oriented projects in the engineering environment. The few offices that have been founded since 2009 are organized in their legal form either as an association (eV) or as entrepreneurial societies.

The aim of the student engineering offices is to develop social skills in general , to enable practical experience during the studies and to provide a network .

The focus when imparting social skills is usually on project management and teamwork , but other disciplines such as presentations or communication are usually made possible through an internal training program and through cooperation with companies.

The students can gain practical experience at student engineering offices mainly by working on projects with external clients . This usually not only includes the implementation of a project , but also its acquisition , planning and follow-up. The student engineering offices are particularly interesting for external clients because of the creativity , impartiality and direct contact with the research of the students. But also the lower price compared to normal engineering offices and the possibility of establishing contact with committed students are reasons for the cooperation.

The contact to companies and their interdisciplinary composition enable the student engineering offices to build up a broad network . Since most students change to an industrial company soon, the current active students in the offices benefit greatly from the network.

Compared to student management consultancies

The organizations and structure of the student engineering offices are based on those of the student management consultancies . Other areas such as student or project acquisition work very similarly to student management consultancies .

The difference between the organizational forms is the alignment of the projects with external companies. Student engineering offices focus on engineering-specific projects such as product development or an analysis of the manufacturing process . Other projects with a technical focus, such as the measurement of interference emissions from a control cabinet or the creation of energy concepts, are also handled by student engineering offices. Student management consultancies usually focus on projects with a direct economic background, such as market research or internal company communication .

This difference can also be seen in the subject areas of the students in the individual organizations. Student engineering offices are mainly composed of students of engineering disciplines , whereas student management consultancies mainly involve students of economics .
