Study book

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A study book is a document that documents the course of studies at a university or other college .

function

A study book provides information about the beginning, courses of study, any change of subject, leave of absence and de-registration . It serves as evidence of the study period, for example when changing university, and is sometimes used by pension insurance institutions to calculate any claims. In some courses, the examination offices require the submission of the study book when registering for (final) exams. At some universities a prefabricated booklet is given out as a study book when you enroll , at others it only consists of loose pages, usually in A5 format .

In the past, keeping a study book was mandatory for every student, but today it is mostly voluntary. Many universities are using the introduction of the Bachelor / Master structures to abolish the study books. The course of study is then electronically documented.

Components

Components of a study book are study book sheets or semester sections or semester sheets, which are given out at the beginning of each semester and, in addition to the name of the semester, provide information about name, matriculation number , course of study and subject combination. They often resemble the certificates of study that are also issued every semester .

Documentation forms are also part of the study book. This documents the events that were attended in the respective semester in order to prove the number of hours per week (SWS) required by the respective study regulations. Today this is the responsibility of the students themselves; in the past, official documenting procedures were partially provided. In addition, the study book is used to store the certificates of attendance and performance acquired.

Even if the universities are increasingly doing away with study books, a study book can be useful in order to have an overview of the events attended even after completing the degree, especially if performances are performed beyond the requirements of the examination regulations.
