The Broadcasting and History Study Group (StRuG) is a scientific association that aims to research the history of radio , television and the “ new media ”.

The study group was founded in 1968 at the suggestion of Wilhelm Treue , who was chairman for many years. He publishes the yearbook Media and History (since 2001) and the specialist journal Rundfunk und Geschichte (RuG; since 1974). The scientific association works closely with the German Broadcasting Archive.

Experts from science and practice work on individual subject areas in special specialist groups. The following specialist groups currently exist: reception history, radio feature, music on the radio, storage cultures, radio historical discussions.

The study group includes scientists, media researchers, archivists, technicians and students. The annual doctoral colloquium “Media History Forum” specifically promotes young academics.
