The Studierendenwerk Bielefeld is a student union . The seat and administration are in Bielefeld.

Services

With the typical services of renting accommodation in student dormitories , university catering ( cafeterias ) and implementation of the Federal Training Assistance Act, the Studierendenwerk Bielefeld ensures that the universities meet not only the academic but also the everyday practical needs of the students. As a regional student union, the StW Bielefeld is responsible for Bielefeld University , the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences , the Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Technology and the Detmold University of Music .

It rents out around 2,600 places in its own and rented dormitories and produces around 1.3 million lunchtime meals per year in 6 canteens. As an office for educational grants, it looks after over 10,000 BAföG applicants. The Studierendenwerk Bielefeld runs three day-care centers for a total of 150 students' children.

organization

The Studierendenwerk is an institution under public law ; it is therefore an independent, organizationally independent institution. The NRW Student Union Act applies to the twelve student unions in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Since the universities and the technical college each have more than one location, the Studierendenwerk Bielefeld has its own facilities in several cities in the Ostwestfalen-Lippe region : apart from Bielefeld, there are canteens and cafeterias of the Studierendenwerk Bielefeld in Minden , Lemgo , Detmold and Höxter . A total of around 40,000 people study at all of these university locations, around 23,000 of them at Bielefeld University.

The self-governing body is the board of directors, to which students, university lecturers, members of the university administrations and employee representatives belong; the managing director of the Studierendenwerk is accountable to the board of directors.

The Studierendenwerk generates the largest proportion of its income from income from the catering establishments or from rent itself. The Studierendenwerk employs around 450 people, over half of whom work - mostly part-time - in the catering establishments.

history

The Studierendenwerk Bielefeld was founded shortly before the University of Bielefeld was founded on September 7, 1968. It all started with the "funding department"; the BAFöG did not yet exist; before it was passed in 1971, students were funded according to the Honnef model . Today, in addition to Bielefeld University, the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences , the Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Technology and the Detmold University of Music are the responsibility of the Studentenwerk.
