The Stutzweck is a traditional Frankfurt cake .
The Stutzweck is only baked in Frankfurt bakeries on New Year's Eve . Up until the end of the 1950s, the children of Frankfurt went from house to house on New Year's Day , recited poems and received a donation as a thank you. The two round heads represent the end of the year and the beginning of the new year. The incisions in the middle symbolize the twelve months of the year. The basic ingredients for the Stutzweck are flour, butter, yeast, sugar, salt, milk, eggs and lemon.
