Su Meng

Su Meng ( Chinese 苏 萌 ; born 1988 in Qingdao , Shandong , China ) is a Chinese classical guitarist .

Su started playing the guitar at the age of five. In 1997, at the age of eight, she began studying with Chen Zhi at the Central Music Conservatory in Beijing , China. From 2006 she studied with Manuel Barrueco at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore , USA, on a scholarship . There she did her master's degree.

Su played in a quartet with Wang Yameng, Li Jie and Chen Shanshan. She appears both as a soloist and in a duet with Wang Yameng in the Beijing Guitar Duo . Su teaches at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts .

Awards

Su won over 20 first prizes in international competitions.

  • 2002: 1st prize at the Vienna Youth Guitar Competition
  • 2005: 1st prize at the 48th Tokyo International Guitar Competition
  • 2006: Winner of the 1st Christopher Parkening Young Guitarist Competition
  • 2006: Winner of the Iserlohn guitar competition
  • 2014: Maryland State Art Council's Individual Artist Award in Classical Solo Performance
  • 2015: Winner of the 4th Parkening Guitar Competition
