Submission wrestling

Submission wrestling (also known as submission fighting , submission grappling , sport grappling , combat grappling and No-Gi ), known in Japan as Combat Wrestling , is a mixture of different martial arts that specialize in holding techniques and ground fighting. The aim of this sport is to defeat the opponent with a surrender .

The popularity of the sport has increased massively in recent years, especially due to the worldwide spread of mixed martial arts , in which many techniques of submission wrestling are used. The most important tournament is the ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championship . The competitions are mostly carried out with a bare upper body or in tight rashguards in order to offer the opponent less support or to prevent him from tearing his clothes and thereby gaining an advantage.

Submission wrestling is one of the grappling disciplines and has its origins in the following martial arts: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu , Luta Livre , freestyle wrestling , Greco-Roman wrestling , Judo , Sambo , Catch Wrestling , Shoot Wrestling , Shooto and Shuaijiao .
