Substance for God was an Israeli Gothic Metal band.

history

The band was founded in 1992 and released the studio album Assembly of Flowers in 1994 , which was distributed in Europe via Nuclear Blast . When this label released the video compilation Beauty in Darkness in 1996 , the band was represented with the video for "The Swan Song". Further publications of the group did not take place.

style

Aldo Quispel from Doom-Metal.com assigns the music to Death Doom and Gothic Metal and makes comparisons to performers and forerunners of the genre such as Paradise Lost , The Sisters of Mercy , Visceral Evisceration and Joy Division . As a result, the singing varies between guttural growling and clear vocals, which corresponds to that of Andrew Eldritch . The music is mainly based on Paradise Lost and Visceral Evisceration, but combines the Death Doom with the sporadic use of flutes, strings and female vocals. Which would create an atmospheric “combination of the feeling of 80s Gothic music and the Death Doom of the early 90s”.
