Andrew Eldritch , actually Andrew William Harvey Taylor , (born May 15, 1959 in Ely , England ) is a British singer , composer and music producer .

Life

His father was a member of the British Air Force . He first studied French and German literature at St John's College, Oxford , and from around 1978 Chinese (Mandarin) at the University of Leeds . However, he did not finish his studies with a degree. He met Mark Pearman through the punk and underground scene and founded the band The Sisters of Mercy with him .

In addition to songwriting, he produced music for other bands, most of which belonged to his own indie label Merciful Release. To this end, he made various remixes, including for the German EBM project Die Krupps and the Hamburg band Kastrierte Philosophen . He has also been a guest vocalist with Sarah Brightman and Gary Moore . In 1997 he founded the SSV-NSMABAAOTWMODAACOTIATW project in order to dissolve his contract with his record label with a deliberately bad reception.

In addition to English , Eldritch speaks German and French .
