Visceral Evisceration was an Austrian metal band from Vienna , which was founded in 1991, later renamed As I Lay Dying and disbanded around 1995.

history

In 1991 the singer and guitarist Hannes Wuggenig moved from Carinthia to Vienna to start a band project. A short time later the guitarist Hannes Nagel, the bassist Dominik Lirsch and the drummer Stephan Strnad joined the cast. In February 1993 the band recorded their first demo with Savor of the Seething Meat . Afterwards guitarist Nagel was replaced by Jürgen Hajek and a contract with Napalm Records was signed. With this label, the debut album Incessant Desire for Palatable Flesh followed in 1994 , which included two new songs in addition to the already known songs from the demo. After that, the band left Napalm Records and renamed itself As I Lay Dying. After the release of a demo in 1995, the band broke up.

style

In his heavy metal lexicon, Matthias Herr found influences from Gothic Metal as well as Death Metal influences on the album Incessant Desire for Palatable Flesh . Without exception, the songs are overly long, while the songs are mostly in the mid-tempo range. In addition, the occasional use of an opera singer and a keyboardist was characteristic, although neither was mentioned in the album's booklet. The singing Wuggenig Change "between dark DM - growls and sonorous Gothic tone of voice." The melancholy stands in contrast to the drastic lyrics: Songs like Gangling Menstrual Blood-Broth for Supper about a sick doctor who disgraces corpses and consumes bloody vaginas or At the Epicurean Gynecologist , which deals with a gynecologist who murders women who are in would consult. Adam Wasylyk from chroniclesofchaos.com assigned the music to death and doom metal, with the vocals being closer to doom metal than death metal.
