Brew mill

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sudmühle is a district of Münster in the Münster-Ost district and, like Mariendorf, belongs to Gelmer and not, as is often assumed, to Handorf .

Geographical location

Today's residential line Sudmühle is located in the north-east of Münster, on Schifffahrter Damm and is more of a separate district for the people of Münster than a residential line of Gelmer, with Gelmer extending north of the main road mentioned, while Sudmühle (like Mariendorf) is located south of it and is closer to Munster.

history

The history of Sudmühle began with the brick factory with this name. A train stop was built for the workers in the brickworks , and a settlement with single-family houses was built near it during the 1950s and 1960s. Mariendorf and Sudmühle belonged to the municipality of Sankt Mauritz in the Münster district until 1975 and were incorporated into Münster as part of the major municipal reform in North Rhine-Westphalia in 1975. Sudmühle and Mariendorf are also grouped together after the name of their former parish church in Münster-Dyckburg . Today the Dyckburg Church is a subsidiary church of the Handorf parish.

Today there is a large mill and an outdoor swimming pool in Sudmühle , which forms the WersePark Sudmühle with a local recreation area , as well as the Westphalian Horse Center.

Transport links

The Sudmühle stop on the Wanne-Eickel – Hamburg line is no longer served. It is only relevant as an operating point for the separation of the railway line between Münster Hauptbahnhof and Osnabrück as part of the main thoroughfare, also known as the taxiway , from the freight bypass . In the event of operational disruptions, trains occasionally run from Münster-Hiltrup on the freight line and do not pass through Münster Central Station.
