The Lahaina, Kaanapali and Pacific Railroad (LKPR), better known as Sugar Cane Train (sugar cane train), a railway company in Hawaii ( United States ). It operates a nearly 10 kilometer long tourist train with a gauge of three feet (914 mm) from Lahaina ( 20 ° 52 ′ 49.4 ″  N , 156 ° 40 ′ 44.2 ″  W Coordinates: 20 ° 52 ′ 49.4 ″  N , 156 ° 40 ′ 44.2 ″  W ) to Puukolii ( 20 ° 56 ′ 25.5 ″  N , 156 ° 41 ′ 19.2 ″  W ) on the west coast of the island of Maui .

After the Kahului Railroad was closed in 1966 , AW MacKelvy built the new route in the tourist areas of the island with the tracks of this train . It opened in 1970 and has carried over 5 million passengers since then . The travel time from Puukolii to Lahaina is around 30 minutes. Four trains run in each direction every day .

In 1973 Kyle Railroad acquired the railroad company from the bankrupt parent company Makai Corporation. With the takeover of the Kyle Railroad by StatesRail in 1997 and later RailAmerica in 2002, the LKPR was also taken over.

In 2007, the Lahaina, Kaanapali and Pacific Railroad sold for $ 400,000. For financial reasons, the railway ceased operations on August 1, 2014. It should be operational again at the end of 2016.
