Sujata Massey , b. Banerjee (* 4. March 1964 Sussex , England ) is an American author of detective novels .

Life

At the age of five she emigrated with her parents - her father comes from India , her mother from Germany - from England. From 1991 to 1993 she lived in Japan . She currently lives in Baltimore .

In 1997 she published the first part of a series of detective novels with the main character Rei Shimura, a half-Japanese from California . Most of the locations are in Japan. The first novel The Salaryman's Wife (dt. Die Tote im Badehaus ) was awarded the Agatha Award for the “Best First Mystery Novel” in 1997 and The Flower Master ( bitter almond blossoms ) in 2000 with the Macavity Award for best novel. With The Widows of Malabar Hill she won the Macavity Award for the second time in the category of best historical detective novel .

In the meantime, Sujata Massey announced on your official homepage that the book "Brennender Hibiskus" ("Shimura Trouble") would be the last publication in the Rei-Shimura series. She then wrote the novel The Sleeping Dictionary , which is set in British India in the 1930s . After a six-year hiatus, however, she published another novel in the Rei Shimura series, The Kizuna Coast .
