Sullivan Square is the name of a subway station owned by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) in the Boston borough of Charlestown in the state of Massachusetts in the United States . The station provides access to the Orange Line and is also an important bus station .
history
On June 10, 1901, the Sullivan Square station of the Boston Elevated Railway (BERy) opened. It was architecturally sophisticated and was considered the crown jewel of the entire BERy system. However, the maintenance of the building was neglected so that the once magnificent structure had to be demolished due to dilapidation after the closure of Charlestown Elevated and the opening of the new station a few blocks further west as part of the Haymarket North Extension .
