The Meşhed-i Hüdavendigar

The Sultan Murad Türbe ( Albanian  Tyrbja e Sulltan Muratit , Serbian Гроб Султана Мурата Grob Sultana Murata ), also called Meşhed-i Hüdavendigar ( Ottoman مشهد خداوندگار 'For example,' the place where the ruler [ Murad I ] fell as a martyr '' ) is the first Ottoman structure that was built in what is now Kosovo .

Before the restoration

Murad I was killed in 1389 by the Serbian knight and nobleman Miloš Obilić during the Ottoman campaign against Serbia in the battle of the Blackbird Field . Before the sultan's body could be transferred to Bursa , its internal organs were removed and buried in the Türbe on the battlefield. The sultan's body is in a Türbe that was built in Çekirge , a suburb of Bursa.

The Sultan Murad Türbe is in the village of Mazgit , about 10 kilometers from Pristina . Sultan Abdülhamid II had the building restored in 1896 and added a guest house for overnight stays. In 1911 Sultan Mehmed V visited the Türbe as part of a trip to the Balkans and prayed in the field with 100,000 Muslims.

In 2005 the Turkish state had the building restored by means of the Diyanet İşleri Başkanlığı .
