Sultanganj is a city in the Indian state of Bihar .
The city is part of the Bhagalpur district . Sultanganj has the status of Nagar Parishad . The city is divided into 25 wards . It had a total of 52,892 inhabitants on the cut-off date of the 2011 census, of which 28,240 were men and 24,652 women. Hindus form the largest group of the city's population with a share of over 83%, followed by Muslims with over 16%. The literacy rate in 2011 was 70.95% and thus below the national average.
