The Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall ( Chinese  國立國父紀念館 , Pinyin Guoli Guofu Jinian guǎn  - "National Memorial Hall of the father") is a memorial to the founder of the Republic of China , sen Yat-Sun , and is located in the district of Xinyi in Taipei in Taiwan . It was completed on May 16, 1972 and extends over 29,464 square meters. It houses a museum about the life of Sun Yat-sen and the revolution he led . It is also a cultural center for the public.

The main entrance to the hall includes a statue of Sun Yat-sen, where a changing of the guard is performed every hour . There is an exhibition, a library and other rooms in the building. The building itself is located in the surrounding Zhongshan Park.

history

The planning for the construction of the hall began in 1964 and the foundation stone was laid in 1965. The architect was Wang Da-hong ( 王 大 閎 ). Construction was completed on May 16, 1972. Originally the hall was primarily intended as a museum of Sun's life and the Xinhai revolution, but it was later opened for exhibitions and performances. The Golden Horse Film Festival is held annually in the hall.
