Sun Xingyan
Sun Xingyan ( Chinese 孙星衍 ; 1753 - 1818 ), also Yuanru (渊如), was a Confucian scholar and philologist in the time of the Qing Dynasty .
He was born in Yanghu (now Wujin , Jiangsu ). After only a brief civil service career, Sun devoted most of his life to studying the Confucian classics, their history, and phonology. His most influential work is his commentary on the Shangshu (Book of Documents) in modern and ancient script.
