Yan Ying ( Chinese  晏嬰  /  晏婴 , Pinyin Yàn Yīng , W.-G. Yen Ying ; approx. 589 - 500 BC ), also Pingzhong or Yanzi ( 晏子 , Yen-tzu  - "Master Yan"), was a politician and statesman in Qi State under various rulers during the spring and autumn annals . He came from Yiwei (now Gaomi , Shandong Province ). Yan was minister and advisor to the Ling , Zhuang, and Jing Dukes of Qi State .

In the Han-Ying Zhongguo zhexue cidian his merits are summarized as follows: “He was famous for his intercession and frugality, as well as for his courageous and skillful admonitions against his ruler. He stood for governing a state through decency in politics and was of the opinion that sovereigns and subjects should be harmonious in their relationships, but could be different in their views. "

Master Yan's Spring and Autumn

The font Yanzi chunqiu ( 晏子 春秋 , Yen-tzu ch'un-ch'iu  - "Spring and Autumn of Master Yan") or Yanzi ( 晏子 , Yen-tzu  - "Master Yan"), a collection of stories about the life and political activity of the statesman is usually attributed to him. It is an important work from ancient Chinese history in terms of philosophy . Since the Tang period, many scholars have expressed doubts about authorship. The book consists of 215 chapters. Some historians viewed it as a Muslim script because it advocates frugality and in some places criticizes Confucianism . An important edition of this is the one in the Congshu called Sibu congkan with a photographic reproduction of a type print from the Ming Dynasty .
