Sunam , also Sunam Udham Singh Wala , is a city in the Indian state of Punjab .

The city is part of the Sangrur district . Sunam has Municipal Council status. The city is divided into 19 wards (constituencies).

history

Sunam is the birthplace of Udham Singh , who shot the then British Governor Michael O'Dwyer in revenge for the Amritsar massacre in 1940 . Singh was executed for what he did. In 2003 the city was named after him and a monument was erected in his honor.

The city's population is 55,455, according to the 2011 census. Including the peripheral settlements, the population is 69,069.
