Sunayana Ghosh

Sunayana Ghosh (* 1979 in Calcutta ) is an Indian percussionist . She specializes in playing the tabla , an Indian hand drum .

biography

Her enthusiasm for music was aroused in her early days by her mother, a talented singer who knows both Indian classical music and folk songs. Her talent was encouraged by studying tabla with well-known teachers ( gurus ) such as Samar Mitra, Pandit Shankar Ghosh ( Farukhabad gharana ) and his son Bickram Ghosh .

She was able to realize her solo career as a tabla player with a Master of Arts in music . Furthermore, she is familiar with Indian singing and Kathak dance , which gave her the necessary encouragement to perform on larger stages with other masters of Indian classical music.

With her interpretations of classical folk songs, she was able to perform in India , Europe , Armenia and Turkey . Her most important concert was broadcast on the British radio station UK Radio (Surtarang FM).

New York's Tom Tom drum magazine for female drummers has published an article about their musical activities in its fifth issue.
