The small, nine-meter-deep Sunburst Lake is located in Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park in British Columbia at an altitude of 2,250 meters. The lake is west of the Assiniboine Lodge and north of the Lake Magog campsite. It is a popular destination for day trips from the lodge or campsite.
Rainbow trout ( Oncorhynchus mykiss ) and probably the rare cutthroat trout ( Oncorhynchus clarki ) live in the lake . Exceptionally large specimens 75 cm in length were caught in Sunburst Lake.
In 1928 the Brewster Brothers from Seebe built a cabin on Sunburst Lake. The Sunburst Cabin was operated by Pat Brewster until she sold it to Elizabeth Rummel in 1949/50 . After Elizabeth "Lizzie" Rummel retired in 1970, the Sunburst Camp was converted into a youth camp and finally taken over by BC Parks . Today the hut is used as accommodation for rangers .
