Super cars

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Super Cars is a computer game developed by the English software manufacturer Magnetic Fields . It was published by Gremlin Graphics in 1990 . The great success of the game, which was published for Commodore's Amiga and C64 , resulted in an improved sequel a year later.

Game principle and technology

Super Cars is a "top-down" racing game, which means that you play from a bird's eye view. The game principle goes back to the Gran Trak 10 slot machine from 1974. There are various courses from three racing classes that have to be mastered. In the shop you can repair your vehicle and equip it with extras such as improved cornering or even a kind of disposable rocket. The three different vehicles available to the player are based on original sports cars. The racetracks only contain 90 ° curves, as the routes could be mapped to save memory.

Production notes

The game's designer is Shaun Southern, who previously developed the hit games Kikstart , Kikstart 2 and Trailblazer for Gremlin Graphics . The specific model for Southern was the Super Sprint slot machine . Super Cars was first developed for the Commodore Amiga and then converted for the Atari ST. The game took about six months to develop. The graphics were created by Andrew Morris with the help of the Deluxe Paint program, and the people in the game were role models for the developers.

Super Cars 2 improved its predecessor by implementing a two-player mode (unusual: with vertically divided split screen), making even more gimmicks available in the shop (including significantly more missiles, mines, armor, etc.) and more fun Change of dialogue u. a. with potential sponsors or even police officers. There are also routes with jumps over one or more ramps, journeys through tunnels and over railroad tracks (including rail traffic) as well as opening gates through which you can shorten.
