Super Drags is a Brazilian comedy - animated series from the year 2018 from Netflix .
action
The series is about three gay men who are friends, Patrick, Donny and Ramon, who work in a mall. If there are problems in the LGBT community, they secretly transform themselves into the super drags Scarlet, Safira and Lemon , which are drag queens - superheroes who stand up for the rights and well-being of the LBGT community. For example, Lady Elza tries to create chaos and the pastor Sandoval tries to cure the "disease" of homosexuality.
Publication and production
The series was developed by Anderson Mahanski, Fernando Mendonça and Paulo Lescaut. The first season of the series (5 episodes) was published for the first time on November 9, 2018 exclusively on the video-on-demand provider Netflix in several languages (including German and English). A second and third season are planned.

In July 2018, the series caused a sensation for not properly protecting children and young people from sexual content and influence, as animated series are often associated with children. However, the producers have announced that they want to market them to adults only. Sometimes homophobic statements were made on the internet. Although the opinion of the LBGT community in Brazil is not necessarily positive, the series managed to catch on. Instead of drawing an authentic image of the LBGT community, it is depicted in a satirical, colorful, grotesque, shrill and completely wacky way. With its characters, the series alludes to the Powerpuff Girls and Magical Girl series such as Sailor Moon . Also social criticism (for example, the Internet exercised). However, some of the jokes are cheap and based on infantile humor and clichés. The use of clichés is also viewed critically, as it is questionable whether the prejudices against the LBGT community will be reinforced and not reduced.
