Super Mario Bros. Deluxe ( Japanese ス ー パ ー マ リ オ ブ ラ ザ ー ズ デ ラ ッ ク ス , Sūpā Mario Burazāzu Derakkusu ) is a platforming video game released by Nintendo for the Game Boy Color in 1999 in Europe, North America and 2000 in Japan . The title is a new edition of Super Mario Bros. ( NES , 1985), the first game in the Super Mario series, and Super Mario Bros .: The Lost Levels ( FDS , 1986).

Super Mario Bros. Deluxe was very well received by the trade press when it was first published. 2014, the title was for the Nintendo eShop of the Nintendo 3DS re-released. The critics' opinions were more critical.

    Game description

Compared to the original games, Super Mario Bros. Deluxe has been adapted to the hardware requirements of the Game Boy Color and supplemented with additional features. To compensate for the Game Boy Color's screen, which is much smaller than that of the television screen, an enlarged section of the level is displayed in the game. In addition, the screen now scrolls up, down and back accordingly.

The original games were supplemented by a world map that visualized the progress in the game, as well as by slight technical improvements. In addition, a memory function is now available. Compared to the original version of The Lost Levels , the difficulty level of the Lost Levels porting in Deluxe has been slightly lowered by removing game elements such as wind.

The game also includes additional modes such as a challenge mode, a two-player mode or Game Boy printer compatibility.

    History of origin

Nintendo's Nintendo Research & Development 2 (R & D2) department was responsible for developing Super Mario Bros. Deluxe . The programming was outsourced to the company Systems Research & Development (SRD). The project manager was Toshiaki Suzuki , while the R&D2 manager Masayuki Uemura and Kazuhiko Taniguchi were involved as producers. The core development team behind the re-launched games - Shigeru Miyamoto , Takashi Tezuka, and Toshihiko Nakago - are named as supervisors in the game's credits.

On May 1, 1999, Nintendo released the game in North America for the Game Boy Color. In Europe, the publication followed on June 10, 1999, while the title in Japan was on March 1, 2000.
