Supercell SPRL is a cellular company based in North Kivu , Democratic Republic of the Congo . The originally regionally restricted concession was later converted into a national concession, an expansion outside Kivu seems to have taken place at least to Bukavu , South Kivu , Kisangani and the former Eastern Province .

history

Supercell started operations in July 2002. Another source mentions the year 1999. At that time, the east of the Congo was under the rule of the rebels of the Rassemblement Congolais pour la Démocratie (RCD-Goma) , from whose ranks it was founded. At least in the beginning, Supercell worked together with Rwandacell , which is plausible from the political situation at the time - or was even a subsidiary.

When the government army captured Bukavu in 2004, Supercell's signal in that city was switched off in favor of Vodafone and Celtel. Supercell used the country code for neighboring Rwanda as the country code . In the summer of 2005, the government set the company a deadline to connect its network to the Congolese network. Since then, the headquarters has been on Mont-Goma. What is special about it is that the responsible PTT minister Gertrude Kitembo is said to be one of Supercells' shareholders. Another shareholder is Modeste Makabuza , who is associated with the arms and raw materials trade in the Rwandan-Congolese border area.
