Supervalu is a US food retail company headquartered in Eden Prairie , Minnesota .
The company was founded in 1870 by Hugh G. Harrison. Supervalu employs around 200,000 people.
On June 2, 2006, Supervalu acquired the US retail company Albertsons . In March 2013 Albertsons and a few other subsidiary chains were sold to Cerberus Capital Management .
At the end of July 2018, the takeover by United Natural Foods was announced.
