Naming

The community of Neudorf has always been known as "soup land" . This name comes from an old legend, the so-called "Katzenhans-Sage". It says that around 1532 a hermit named Katzenhans went to the village in winter to beg for food. Everywhere where he was allowed in, he was served soup . As a result, he is said to have got a stomach ache on the way into the forest and contemptuously called the village “soup village”. This spread throughout the area and Neudorf is still nicknamed “Soupland” today.

The museum

Since 1992 the museum has housed all sorts of interesting facts about soups, such as recipes, utensils as well as pictures and texts on the subject of soup. In addition, the local customs, such as the soup cooking Olympics or the soup pot pulling , are particularly addressed. Initially, the museum was located in smaller rooms in the residential area of the Kaiserhof Neudorf . In August 2013 the museum was able to move into new premises in the neighboring former town hall.
