history

Church in Neudorf

The place was created around 1530 by raftsmen and charcoal burners as a forest settlement. A village called Krax- or Krachsdorf existed before that, but it was probably destroyed by the Hussites . The first documentary mention dates from 1539 as Nauendorff, called Kratzdorff . August Schumann mentions in 1820 in the State, Post and Newspaper Lexicon of Saxony Neudorf concerning a. a .:

“Back then, when the mine was in full swing, raft masters first built a house for charcoal burners, rafters and woodcutters to stay and thus founded the place; for then several of the workers who immigrated from the lower area also built themselves up until it grew into a large village of around 134 houses and 950 inhabitants. […] North of Neudorf was the village of Kraftdorf or Kraxdorf. [...] The inhabitants live from insufficient farming, from lucrative cattle breeding, lace making and other handicrafts, especially wood felling and processes. "

On January 1, 1999, the previously independent municipalities of Cranzahl, Neudorf and Sehma merged to form the municipality of Sehmatal.
