history

The names of the Feuerturm and Toskabank peaks did not arise until the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. In the 16th century and later, the ridge was only known as the Stahlberg . The ridge with its slopes in the west and north was delimited by the Lampertsbach, in the east by the Pöhlbach and in the south-west and south by the land boundaries of Neudorf and Kretscham-Rothensehma. He belonged to the Electoral Saxon office in Schlettau . After 1650, the name of the Stahlberg gradually passed on to the settlement founded by Bohemian exiles , which developed on the north-east upstream elevation south of the place Bärenstein. The field name Stahlberg last appeared in 1824. Afterwards it was replaced by the names Steinberg / Feuerturm for the northern part and Toskabank for the southern part.

The southern and highest elevation of the Stahlberg was named Toskabank at the beginning of the 20th century . It is named after Toska Eberwein, whose husband was the chief forester in Kretscham-Rothensehma at the time. He came from a forest ranger family and was very committed to the development of tourism and thus additional income opportunities for the place. Eberwein had benches set up on the ridge. The original sculptures of deer and stags that were erected after the First World War no longer exist today. They were renewed in the present and complement the resting bench at the lookout point.

In the past, the viewpoint on the summit offered a wide panoramic view of the upper Ore Mountains, including the Eisenberg and Bohemia . The view is now restricted by tree cover.

Paths to the summit

The summit can be reached via the Erzgebirge-Vogtland ridge trail from the west via Kretscham-Rothensehma or from the north via the fire tower. The Stoneman Miriquidi , the most demanding mountain bike route in the Ore Mountains, runs on the Fichtelberg - Bärenstein section in the southern and eastern part of the Toskabank.
