The Cranzahl dam is a dam in the Free State of Saxony . It was built in 1949–1952 near Sehmatal - Cranzahl and Bärenstein in the Ore Mountains to supply drinking water to Annaberg-Buchholz and the surrounding area. Along with the Sosa dam, it was one of the two large dam construction projects in the young GDR . In keeping with the zeitgeist of the time, it was given the name "Dam of Friendship".
The dam of the dam is a kinked earth embankment dam with an inclined inner seal made of clay . It is a large dam according to the ICOLD criterion . The dammed waters are the Lampertsbach and Moritzbach.
A walkable path (500 meters) leads over the dam. Swimming, recreational sports, etc. in the reservoir are not permitted. Instead, however, there is the opportunity to use the circular route (3.5 kilometers). Hiking, mountain biking and skiing are possible here.
