Sur (Eng. South) was an Argentine literary magazine that was published between 1931 and 1992.

history

The magazine Sur was founded by the Argentine writer and publisher Victoria Ocampo and shaped the history of Latin America, especially in the high phase up to the end of the 1960s. From the beginning, famous authors have published articles in the magazine, including Jorge Luis Borges , Adolfo Bioy Casares , José Bianco , Walter Gropius and Silvina Ocampo . In addition to literary topics, central political events of the twentieth century such as the Spanish Civil War , the Second World War , the upheavals of the Cold War and, despite attempts at censorship, also the dictatorships of Latin America were treated with impressive consistency. After Ocampo's death in 1979, there were only 67 issues before the magazine was discontinued in 1992 with the number 371.
