Surkhar Nyamnyi Dorje ( Tib. For mkhar mnyam nyid rdo rje ; * 1439 , † 1475 ) was a Tibetan physician of the 15th century . He is believed to be the founder of the Southern School of Tibetan Medicine , the School of Sur ( Tib. Zur lugs ). In one of his works, the Man ngag bye ba ring bsrel , the Chinese caterpillar fungus ( Ophiocordyceps sinensis ) is mentioned for the first time in Tibetan literature.
