Surprised Kitty is a cat video that is one of the most recognizable cat memes of the 21st century as an internet phenomenon .

The video shows a kitten whose stomach is being petted by a woman's hands. When the woman, whose hands can only be seen, pulls her hands back, the kitten spreads its paws in surprise. It throws its paws in the air simultaneously with its hands. The length of the video is 17 seconds.

The kitten shown was born in 2009, is female and is named "Attila Fluff". At the time the video was made, Attila was between six and ten weeks old.

Development from 2009 to the present

In October 2009 the video was published on the YouTube video platform . It was also spread on other platforms like Reddit . In 2010, Surprised Kitty had been viewed over 28 million times. In 2011, The New York Times reported over 55 million hits. With 63 million views, it was the most popular cat video of all time in 2012, according to a YouTube manager. From almost 76 million visits in 2015, the number of hits increased to 78 million in 2018.
