Qarajaq [ qɑʁaˈjɑq ] (according to the old spelling K'arajaĸ ) is a deserted Greenlandic settlement in the district of Uummannaq in the Avannaata Kommunia .
location
Qarajaq is located on the west bank of Qarassap Ikera, relatively at the end of Uummannap Kangerlua . The closest location is Ikerasak , which is located 21 km west-northwest. Qarajaq was the southernmost place in the colonial district.
history
Qarajaq was settled around 1865 by a resident from Ikerasak. In 1911 Qarajaq became part of the municipality of Ikerasak. In 1915 the place had 34 inhabitants who lived in five houses. There were nine hunters, a fisherman and a catechist. In 1921 Qarajaq was given up.
