history

Sermiarsuit may have been continuously inhabited since the 18th century. In 1793, 25 people lived there, 16 of whom were still unbaptized. Five years later, 21 people were counted, all of whom were now baptized. In 1805 only 18 people lived in sermiarsuit. In 1850 there were again 84 and in 1905 57.

In 1915, 47 people lived in sermiarsuit and lived in seven houses. There were 14 hunters, one of whom worked as a reader, as well as a fisherman. In 1935 a school chapel was built and later a small fish house. In 1952 the local fishermen caught only 232 kg of fish per capita. By 1947 the population rose to 75 people. Then she went back and the place has been deserted since 1964.

Sermiarsuit was the only place to live in Uummannaq parish until 1950. Then the place was incorporated into the new community Uummannaq .
