Appat [ ˈapːatˢʰ ] (according to the old spelling Agpat ) is a deserted Greenlandic settlement in the district of Uummannaq in the Avannaata Kommunia .

location

Appat is located on the west coast of a large island of the same name . On the opposite side of the Sound Appat Ikerat is the island of Salleq . The nearest inhabited place is Ukkusissat 17 km northeast and Uummannaq is 28 km south.

history

Appat was only temporarily inhabited in the past. In 1793, 30 people were counted nearby. Later a hunter from Saattut had a hunting lodge here. Appat was not permanently settled until 1889 when a man from Illorsuit moved to the place. In 1905 there were already 46 people living there. In 1911 Appat became part of the Ukkusissat municipality. In 1915 Appat had 36 residents who lived in six houses. There were eight hunters. Later the population decreased to 14 to 21 people. In 1950 the place became part of the new community Uummannaq . In 1955 Appat was given up.
