Nuussuutaa [ ˈnuːsːuːˌtaː ] (according to the old spelling Nûgssûtâ ) is a desolate Greenlandic settlement in the district of Uummannaq in the Avannaata Kommunia .

location

Nuussuutaa is located at the end of the large peninsula of the same name , which forms the border between the districts of Uummannaq and Ilulissat or Qeqertarsuaq . At the end of the peninsula are several small islands that form the continuations of the narrow capes in the area. Nuussuaq, which has also been abandoned, is only 3.5 km to the north . The closest still inhabited place is Niaqornat 37 km northeast.

history

In Nuussuutaa there are old ruins that suggest an early settlement. Later the place was deserted. It was not until 1873 that two families came from Udsted Nuusaq , 32 km to the south-east, and repopulated the area.

From 1911 Nuussuutaa belonged to the Nuussuaq municipality. In 1915 Nuussuutaa had 42 residents who lived in four houses. There were seven hunters, one of whom was a catechist. In 1930 Nuussuutaa still had 15 residents and in 1935 the residential area was given up.
