The Susan B. Anthony dollar is an American currency coin for one US dollar , which was minted between 1979 and 1981 and again in 1999. On the obverse it shows the portrait of the pioneer of the American women's rights movement, Susan Brownell Anthony . The reverse shows the Apollo 11 mission emblem , a bald eagle landing on the moon.

The coin replaced the Eisenhower dollar , which was minted until 1978 , which was not particularly popular due to its size. However, the Susan B. Anthony dollar was also unable to establish itself in daily payment transactions. On the one hand, the slightly angular shape was met with skepticism among the population and on the other hand, the coin is only slightly larger than the quarter of the same color (quarter dollar), which often led to confusion. Due to this, the coinage was stopped again in 1981. The coin was issued again in 1999, but was replaced by the Sacagawea dollar in 2000 . The Susan B. Anthony dollar remains an official currency and can occasionally be found in circulation.

The coin consists of a three-layer material: two layers of cupronickel (75% Cu, 25% Ni) and a layer of pure copper in between . The copper layer is visible as a red line on the edge. It has a diameter of 26.5 mm, a thickness of 2.0 mm and weighs 8.1 g. The edge is fluted .
