Susan Hussey

Susan Katherine Hussey, Baroness Hussey of North Bradley , GCVO , (born May 1, 1939 as Lady Susan Katharine Waldegrave ) is a chambermaid of Queen Elizabeth II and godmother of Prince William .

Life

Susan Hussey was born as the fifth and youngest daughter of Geoffrey Waldegrave , 12th Earl Waldegrave (1905-1995). As the daughter of an earl , she used the courtesy form Lady . She is a sister of former ministers William Waldegrave, 13th Earl of Waldegrave and William Waldegrave, Baron Waldegrave of North Hill .

On April 25, 1959, she married Marmaduke Hussey (1923-2006), a future chairman of the BBC Board of Governors . From this marriage had two children, James Arthur (born August 15, 1961) and Katharine Elizabeth (born February 1, 1964). In 1996 her husband was promoted to life peer as Baron Hussey of North Bradley ; she has since held the courtesy title of Baroness Hussey of North Bradley .

Since 1960 she has been the Queen's Lady-in-Waiting . In the early 1980s, Hussey was entrusted with explaining to Lady Diana the handling, customs and nuances of protocol to which the royal family is subjected. She became as familiar to the princess as an older sister.

After she had been named Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO) in 1971 and was elevated to the personal nobility status as Dame Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (DCVO) in 1984 , she became the Dame Grand Cross in 2013 as part of Queen Elizabeth II's anniversary celebrations of the Royal Victorian Order (GCVO).
