Susanne Levy
Susanne Levy (born December 5, 1921 in Nuremberg ; † November 19, 2009 in Basel ) was a Swiss painter , graphic artist , draftsman , sculptor and photographer .
Life
Levy received training at the Florence Art Academy in 1937 and 1938, as well as at the Basel School of Applied Arts (courses in photography and graphics). She also completed an apprenticeship as a photographer in the Atelier Eidenbenz, Basel (the Eidenbenz brothers were known as photographers and poster designers at the time) as well as practice in various painting and sculpting studios in Germany and abroad. She was a citizen of Basel and lived in Arlesheim BL.
In 1940 she married Ernst Levy. She was well acquainted with the painter Mark Tobey, who lived in Basel from 1960 to 1976.

The work includes sculptures, drawings, collages and abstract pictures (mainly in acrylic).
The large-format pictures and brush drawings were created through the energies of the micro- and macrocosm. The tragic experiences were implemented in red and black works; the white pictures grew out of the silence.
Since 1977 there have been various editions of artist books in graphic techniques with their own texts and numerous unique pieces on mostly handmade paper .

Pictures were bought by the Kunstkredit BL, the municipality of Arlesheim and the municipality of Aesch. Her books can be found in numerous university and public libraries in Switzerland, Germany and the USA.
