Susie Arioli

Susie Arioli (born December 19, 1963 in Toronto ) is a Canadian blues and jazz singer from Montreal . She was nominated for three Juno Awards .

Career

Susie Arioli had been singing at various jazz clubs in Montreal when she met guitarist Jordan Officer at a jam session led by Stephen Barry. Together they founded the Susie Arioli Band . Your first big chance came in 1998; after a successful open air show, the organizers of the Montreal International Jazz Festival asked them if they would like to support Ray Charles . The band's inaugural gig caught the attention of jazz critics in Montreal. Soon after the concert, the band released their debut album It's Wonderful .

Susie Arioli has received several Juno nominations. Her second album, Pennies from Heaven , was the last recording by jazz pianist Ralph Sutton . Their third album, That's for Me , was produced by John Snyder. Her fourth album, Learn to Smile Again, was a foray into country music and featured six songs by country songwriter Roger Miller. With the fifth album Night Lights she returned to jazz and presented a collection of jazz standards . Guitarist Jordan Officer played on all of Susie Arioli's albums.

In an article in Atlantic Monthly magazine , Arioli was recognized as an emerging jazz talent by jazz critic Francis Davis in 2006.
