Suwanosejima ( Japanese 諏 訪 之 瀬 島 ) is an inhabited volcanic island with an area of ​​27.66 km² in the Kagoshima Prefecture . It is one of the Tokara Islands and, after Nakanoshima, is the second largest of the ten islands in this chain of islands.

It belongs to the Toshima City Administration in Kagoshima County. In 2004 there were 48 people in 25 households on the island. There is a primary and secondary school on the island which is attended by 17 students (2016).

The stratovolcano that forms the island is one of the world's most active volcanoes.
