Suzanna Hamilton (born February 8, 1960 in London ) is a British actress . Her best-known role to date was that of Julia in the 1984 film adaptation of George Orwell's novel 1984.

She often plays seductive, enigmatic characters who combine a childishly tender appearance and vulnerability as well as a touch of provocative sexuality. Her enigmatic look and sensual demeanor are reminiscent of the early films by Swedish actress Harriet Andersson , while her boyish appearance is comparable to the young Rita Tushingham . In the 1985 film Wetherby , her elusive role was succinctly described as "the kind of girl people get obsessed with . "

Life

Suzanna Hamilton was discovered in the early 1970s at the age of 12 by the filmmaker Claude Whatham in a children's theater in north London. In 1974 she played her first leading role in a film, Swallows and Amazones, based on a children's book by Arthur Ransome . Under the name Zanna Hamilton, she played the role of Susan Walker, one of four siblings known as the swallows , who go on a boat trip in the Lake District in the summer of 1929 . Whatham also directed the BBC miniseries Disraeli (1978), in which she played Princess Alexandra.

Suzanna Hamilton studied acting at the Anna Scher Theater School and the Central School of Speech and Drama in London.

In her first major motion film she played Izz Huett, the lovesick milkmaid from Dorset in Roman Polański's film Tess , from the novel Tess of the d'Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy with Nastassja Kinski in the title role.

After she had withdrawn from working in cinema films, she devoted herself to raising her son Lowell (* 1993). Occasionally she still appears on television and does theater.
