Suzanne Toolan
Sr. Suzanne Toolan RSM (born October 24, 1927 in Lansing , Michigan ) is an American teacher , musician and composer .
She came into contact with Taizé through youth meetings in North America . At the age of 17 she moved to Hollywood , where she became a student of Richard Keys Biggs . Since joining the Order ("Sisters of Mercy") Suzanne Toolan has lived and worked as a teacher, musician and composer at the Mercy Center, Burlingame , California.
For Taizé she wrote "When the night becomes dark", the "Kyrie A" and the "Alleluia 16". However, she became internationally known with a much earlier New Spiritual Song , "I Am the Bread of Life" (Copyright 1971 GIA Publications Inc., 7407 S. Mason, Chicago, Ill 60638). This song can be found under the titles "I am the bread of life" or "And he will resurrect" in numerous German-language song books.
