Svegssjön is the largest lake in the historic Swedish province of Härjedalen , which is part of Jämtland County . The lake is named after the town of Sveg , which is not far from the south-east bank of the lake. The area of the lake is around 60 km².
The lake was created when the three rivers Ljusnan , Vemån and Härjån were dammed in 1975 in order to increase the yield of the two hydropower plants on the lakes. The smaller of the two power plants was built in 1919 and is located at the southern end of the lake, near Härrö . The larger power plant is located near Sveg and was built in 1966.
