Sveinbjörn Beinteinsson (born July 4, 1924 in Grafardalur on Borgarfjörður ; † December 23, 1993 ) was a priest of neo-paganism . He played a decisive role in the state recognition of Ásatrú as a legitimate religion in Iceland in 1973 and was the first High Gode (Allsherjargóði) in it until 1993 . He was also the editor and poet of Rímur .

Sveinbjörn exercised a decisive influence on the modern Ásatrú movement and pagan circles, which reached beyond the borders of his country to the European mainland and the USA.

In addition to his concentrated religious activity, he was also politically active in the protests against the stationing of nuclear weapons in Iceland by NATO .

Sveinbjörn can be heard in detail several times on the music album Live in Reykjavik by the industrial band Psychic TV and the album Edda by Current 93 .
